Area Code 615 was the name of a Nashville country rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s, taking their name from the telephone area code, which at the time covered all of Central and Eastern Tennessee. The band was made up of session musicians, recording only two albums before resuming normal session work. Several of the members were backing musicians for Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde and Nashville Skyline albums and on recordings by Billy Swan. Their best known work was "Stone Fox Chase", which was used as the theme to the British Broadcasting Corporation's music programme The Old Grey Whistle Test. Earthen Vessel was one of the quintessential "Jesus Rock" bands in the Midwest for an 18-month period during 1970-1971. The "Jesus Movement," a sort of counter-cultural church youth group, was rapidly growing in California in 1970. Earthen Vessel began practicing in the fall of 1970, writing original songs and playing at the Catacombs, a Christian coffeehouse in Lansing operated by Balton Enterprises. The band wanted to be both an evangelistic ministry and a high-powered, high-volume, full-on acid rock band, minus, of course, the acid and other psychedelic drugs. (In fact, Earthen Vessel often performed at anti-drug rallies at area high schools in the towns they were performing in on any given night.) By the summer of 1971, the band was playing outdoor festivals throughout the Midwest as well as at various Christian music festivals and functions. Everlasting Life was released in 1971, but it did not sell as well as the band had hoped. The grueling wear of the road and the album's failure, as well as the various college and career plans, coaxed the band members into disbanding by the summer of 1972. 01 - Life Everlasting 02 - You Can 03 - Let Jesus Bring You Back 04 - I've Been Walking 05 - Coming Home 06 - Get High LINK
Plain Jane were an L.A. based quartet originally from Alburquerque N.M. consisting of Barry Ray (guitar-vocals), Don Gleicher (guitar-vocals), David Schoenfeld (drums), and Jerry Shoenfeld (bass-piano-vocals). Underrated album on the same label as Sapphire Thinkers and Randy Holden. It’s generally described as "rural,” but it’s not country at all. It’s more like a guitar pop album with a very laid back feel. In an understated way it anticipates the California rock of the 70s. Several songwriters create a surprisingly consistent sound. The vocals are very nice and the songs sneak up on you. "Not The Same” sounds like grade-A Badfinger. A pleasant surprise. The Collage were a vocal sunshine pop quartet from California, 2 girls, Jodie & Donna and 2 boys, Jerry & Ron with a very cool sound. Not enough though, to set them apart from the pack, but very "groovy" out of their context. The sound is as good as re-discovered groups like Free Design, or Millenium. In fact, Curt Boettcher wrote one of the songs ("Would You Like To Go”) on the lp, as well as one by Roger Nichols ("Can I Go”). The arrangements are by the great Perry Botkin Jr., and he gives the whole record a nice swirling, magical quality, and the rest of the album is just as impressive, and should please any lover of the genre. Vinegar Joe was a British R&B band in the early 1970s, who were best known for their live shows. The core members were lead singers Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer, bassist Steve York, keyboard player Tim Hinkley and guitarist Pete Gage who also played piano. Conrad Isidore played drums on their first album Vinegar Joe. Their debut LP was released in April 1972. They released three albums on Island Records in the UK and Atco Records in the U.S.. Although the band never achieved significant record sales, they toured extensively, playing numerous sell-out concerts, especially on the British university circuit. After the band dissolved at the end of 1973, both Brooks and Palmer went on to enjoy success as solo musicians. Pete Gage became a record producer working with a range of successful musicians like Joan Armatrading and specialising in upcoming rockability and punk bands such as Restless, King Kurt and others.

This hard rock trio from Boston, famous for making the opening for the Velvet Underground and because Yesterday's Childrens made a version of one of his songs, was composed by Michael Clemens (drums), David Mello (guitar) and Richard Porter (bass). Wilkinson Tri-Cycle's only album is similar to post-psychedelic heavy rock recordings by East Coast groups like Sir Lord Baltimore and Yesterday's Children in that they combine bluesy heavy rock with psychedelic flourishes. Dark Tranquillity is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg. They are the longest-standing band from the original Gothenburg metal scene, and are one of the most integral pioneers of the melodic death metal genre of music. Dark Tranquillity was formed in 1989 by vocalist and guitarist Mikael Stanne & guitarist Niklas Sundin, who looked at their influences and then decided to form their own band under the name Septic Broiler. Not long after, three additional members, Anders Fridén, Anders Jivarp and Martin Henriksson, joined the line-up. In 1990, the band recorded a demo cassette tape entitled Enfeebled Earth before they would change their name to Dark Tranquillity and change their musical style. Haven is the fifth full-length studio album released by Dark Tranquillity in 2000. It continued to advance the musical changes started on their previous album. A mix of melody, electronic pads, and heavy metal gave new fans to the band, but also became criticized by old melodic death fans that disliked the genre. Niklas Sundin has stated that this is his least favourite Dark Tranquillity album (this is also the only Dark Tranquillity album where he does not receive any songwriting credit), but has also mentioned that "Emptier Still" is his favourite song from the album. This is the first Dark Tranquillity release with Martin Henriksson becoming a full-time rhythm guitar player plus Michael Nicklasson & Martin Brändström recording with the band.

Founded in 1987, Dangerous Toys put out four full-length albums and one live album before unofficially disbanding at the turn of the millennium. Their major label debut, the Gold-certified Dangerous Toys featured the singles "Teas N' Pleas N' " and "Scared". In 2006 "Teas N' Pleas N' " was covered by Shadows Fall (Atlantic Records) on their B-Sides LP Fallout From The War, featuring guest vocals from Toys' vocalist Jason McMaster. Dangerous Toys was formed in October 1987. Jason McMaster, singer for Watchtower, was invited by Tim Trembley to join his band, Onyxx, as singer. Onyxx included Scott Dalhover (guitar), Mark Geary (drums) and Mike Watson (bass). In 1988, now calling themselves Dangerous Toys, the band were signed to Columbia Records. Celtic Frost was a heavy metal band from Zürich, Switzerland. They are known for their heavy influence on the extreme metal genres, particularly black metal. The group was first active from 1984 to 1993, and re-formed in 2001. Following Tom Gabriel Fischer's departure in 2008, Celtic Frost decided to break up again. The band was inspired by heavy metal groups such as Black Sabbath, Angel Witch, Venom but also by gothic rock acts like Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Christian Death and the hardcore punk group Discharge. To Mega Therion (meaning the great beast in Greek) is the second album by the Swiss extreme metal band Celtic Frost, released in October 1985. The cover artwork is a painting by H.R. Giger entitled Satan I. Into the Pandemonium is the 1987 album by Celtic Frost. The album is more varied than many of Celtic Frost's past LPs, with unlikely covers (Wall of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio"), emotionally charged love songs and the band's signature industrial-influenced rhythmic songs of demons and destruction. The track "Rex Irae" is the opening part of Celtic Frost's requiem, the third, concluding part of which, "Winter (Requiem, Chapter Three: Finale)" can be heard on 2006's Monotheist. Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1993. Dimmu borgir means "dark cities" or "dark castles/fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse. The name is derived from a volcanic formation in Iceland, Dimmuborgir. The band has been through numerous line-up changes over the years; guitarist Silenoz and vocalist Shagrath are the only founding members remaining. Dimmu Borgir started as a black metal band in 1993. Formed by Shagrath, Silenoz, and Tjodalv, the band released an EP in 1994 entitled Inn i evighetens mørke (Into the Darkness of Eternity). This short EP sold out within weeks, and the band followed up with the 1994 full length album For all tid (For all Time) This album featured vocal contributions by Vicotnik of Ved Buens Ende and Dødheimsgard and Aldrahn of Dødheimsgard and Zyklon-B. The initial lineup consisted of Shagrath playing drums with Tjodalv on guitar and Silenoz contributing lead vocals. This line-up changed before the release of Stormblåst ("Storm Blown") on Cacophonous Records in 1996, an album considered by many to be their finest. Cradle Of Filth - 1996 - V Empire (or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein) EP
Cradle of Filth are an English extreme metal band, formed in Suffolk in 1991. The band's musical style evolved from black metal to a cleaner and more "produced" amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic black metal and other extreme metal styles, while their lyrical themes and imagery are heavily influenced by gothic literature, poetry, mythology and horror films. The band has successfully broken free from its original niche by courting mainstream publicity (often to the chagrin of its early fanbase), and this increased accessibility has brought coverage by the likes of Kerrang! and MTV, frequent main stage appearances at major festivals such as Ozzfest, Download and even the mainstream Sziget Festival, and in turn a more "commercial" image. They have sometimes been perceived as Satanic by casual observers, although their outright lyrical references to Satanism are few and far between, and use of Satanic imagery has arguably always had more to do with the shock value and mythological usage than any seriously-held beliefs. According to a 2006 issue of Metal Hammer magazine, they are the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden. V Empire or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein is Cradle of Filth's second official release, following The Principle of Evil Made Flesh. It was the band's final release for Cacophonous Records, and was hastily written and recorded for that label as a contractual obligation, before the band jumped ship to Music for Nations. As such, it is the first of two releases from 1996, the other being Dusk... and Her Embrace. Despite the circumstances in which it was written and recorded, it was well received by critics and a handful of its tracks are staples of the band's live sets to this day. 01 - Ebony Dressed For Sunset 02 - The Forest Whispers My Name 03 - Queen Of Winter, Throned 04 - Nocturnal Supremacy 05 - She Mourns In A Lengthening Shadow 06 - The Rape And Ruin Of Angels LINK Cradle Of Filth - 1998 - Cruelty And The Beast (Celtic Cross Version)
Cruelty and the Beast is the third studio album by English extreme metal band Cradle of Filth. It is a concept album based on the legend of the Hungarian "blood countess" Elizabeth Báthory. The album features guest narration on certain passages by Ingrid Pitt in character as Báthory; a role she first played in the Hammer film Countess Dracula in 1971. Orchestral and symphonic keyboard elements are given even more emphasis than previously, giving the music a darker and more dramatic feel. The album was well received on its release. The track "Cruelty Brought thee Orchids" has remained a staple of the band's live setlist since the album's release. The Album ranked tenth in a Kerrang! top ten "Essential Black Metal" albums list. 01 - Once Upon Atrocity 02 - Thirteen Autumns And A Widow 03 - Cruely Brought Thee Orchids 04 - Beneath The Howling Stars 05 - Venus In Fear 06 - Desire In Violent Overture 07 - The Twisted Nails Of Faith 08 - Bathory Aria 09 - Lustmord And Wargasm (The Relicking Of Cadaverous Wounds) 10 - Black Metal 11 - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Shallow Be My Grave) 12 - Sodomy And Lust 13 - Twisting Further Nails (The Cruci-Fiction Mix) LINK
Cinderella is an American heavy metal band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They emerged in the mid-1980s with a series of multi-platinum albums and hit singles whose music videos received heavy MTV rotation. They were famous for being a glam metal band, but then shifted over towards a more hard rock/blues-rock sound. By the mid-1990s, the band's popularity declined severely due to personal setbacks and public changes in musical tastes. Nonetheless, after a period of hiatus the band reunited and is still active at present. Cinderella was formed in Philadelphia in 1983 by singer-songwriter, keyboardist, and guitarist Tom Keifer and bassist Eric Brittingham. The initial lineup also included guitarist Michael Smerick and drummer Tony Destra. In 1985, Smerick and Destra left to form Britny Fox, another Philadelphia-based glam metal band that later relocated to Los Angeles. Cinderella got their big break when Jon Bon Jovi saw them perform at the Empire Rock Club in Philadelphia and recommended that his A&R rep Derek Shulman who knew of the band, to see them as well. In 1985, with a recording contract with Mercury/Polygram Records in the works, guitarist Jeff LaBar and drummer Jim Drnec joined the band.
