Robert Clarke Seger is an American rock musician and singer-songwriter. As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he performed and recorded as The Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s. By the early 1970s, he had dropped the "System" from his recordings, and he continued to strive for national success with other various bands. In 1973 he put together "The Silver Bullet Band," an evolving group of Detroit-area musicians, with whom he became most successful. In 1976, he achieved national fame with two albums, the live record Live Bullet, and the studio record Night Moves. On his studio albums he also worked extensively with the Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, appearing on several of Seger's best selling singles and albums. The second single from The Bob Seger System was "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man". Predictably it was a smash in Michigan, but it also became Seger's first national hit, peaking at #17. The song's success led to the release of an album of the same title in 1969. The Ramblin' Gamblin' Man album reached #62 on the Billboard pop albums chart.

Robert Gaston "Bobby" Fuller was an American rock singer, songwriter, and guitar player best known for his singles "I Fought the Law" and "Love's Made a Fool of You," recorded with his mid-1960s group, the Bobby Fuller Four. Fuller moved to Los Angeles in 1964 with his band The Bobby Fuller Four, and was signed to Mustang Records by producer Bob Keane, who was noted for discovering Ritchie Valens and producing many surf music groups. By this time, the group consisted of Fuller and his brother Randy on vocals/guitar and bass respectively, Jim Reese on guitar and DeWayne Quirico (later replaced by Dalton Powell) on drums. At a time when the British Invasion and folk rock were the dominant genres in rock, Fuller stuck to Buddy Holly's style of classic rock and roll with Tex Mex flourishes. His recordings, both covers and originals, also reveal the influences of Eddie Cochran, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and the Everly Brothers, as well as surf guitar. Less well known was Fuller's ability to emulate the reverb-laden surf guitar of Dick Dale and The Ventures. His first Top 40 hit was the self-penned "Let Her Dance". His second hit, "I Fought the Law", hit No. 8 on Billboard. The song was written by Sonny Curtis, a former member of Buddy Holly's group The Crickets, and recorded by the line-up of the Fuller brothers, James Reese on guitar, and Dalton Powell on drums. The group's third Top 40 single was a cover of Holly's "Love's Made a Fool of You." Just after "I Fought The Law" became a Top 10 hit, Fuller was found dead in an automobile parked outside his Hollywood apartment.

Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde is the seventh album by the American rock band The Byrds and was released in March 1969 on Columbia Records. The album saw the band juxtaposing simple country rock material with harder-edged psychedelia, giving the album a stylistic split-personality that was alluded to in its title. The album was the first to feature the new band line-up of Clarence White (guitar), Gene Parsons (drums), John York (bass), and founding member Roger McGuinn (guitar). Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde is unique within the band's discography for being the only album on which McGuinn sings the lead vocal on every track. The album peaked at #153 on the Billboard Top LPs album chart and reached #15 on the UK Albums Chart.

Third Ear Band evolved within the London alternative and free-music scene of the mid 1960s. Members came from The Giant Sun Trolley and The People Band to create an improvised music drawing on Eastern raga forms, European folk, experimental and medieval influences. They recorded their first session in 1968 for Ron Geesin which was released under the pseudonym of The National-Balkan Ensemble on one side of a Standard Music Library disc. Their first actual album, Alchemy, was released on the EMI Harvest label in 1969, (featuring John Peel playing Jew's Harp on one track), followed by Air, Earth, Fire, Water (aka Elements) in 1970. They recorded two soundtracks, the first in 1970 for an animated film by Fuchs of Abelard and Heloise (which first saw release as part of Luca Ferrari's Necromancers of the Drifting West Sonic Book in 1997) and then in 1971 for Roman Polanski's film of Macbeth. After various later incarnations and albums they finally disbanded in 1993. They also opened The Rolling Stones Free Concert at Hyde Park on 5 July 1969.

The Upside Dawne are an obscure psychedelic band from the 60's and this self-titled album is very rare release on the Audio Label of Lawrence, Kansas. The Illusions morphed into the Upside Dawne when Mike Jordan (lead guitar) and Bob Basow (vocal, sax) in the Illusions graduated from KU.  Steve Hall (drums) knew Jim Stringer (lead guitar), who knew Larry Franklin (rhythm guiter) and Tom Burdine (bass), so that's how they came to join the group. When Jim Stringer and Steve Hall left to form Tide, the Upside Dawne expanded into a 7-piece group with Scott Korchak, Garth Fundis and Dana Elniff on horns and vocals.

Vocalist Michelle Cochrane, singer/keyboardist Robb Royer, bassist Tim Hallinan, and drummer Steve Cohn formed harmony pop quartet The Pleasure Fair in Los Angeles in 1966. The group signed to Uni Records the following year, and on the recommendation of session ace Leon Russell, pop maestro David Gates was installed to produce their self-titled debut LP, headlined by the single "Morning Glory Days." "(I'm Gonna Have To) Let You Go" followed in 1968, and the Pleasure Fair soon dissolved; Gates then recruited Royer to join his fledgling soft pop group Bread, and the rest is AM radio history -- Hallinan is also among the musicians credited on the first Bread album, and later enjoyed a career as a mystery novelist.
