Heartsfield is an American vocal rock group. Formed in 1970 by J.C. Hartsfield and Perry Jordan, Heartsfield toured throughout the United States during the 1970s and early 1980s. "Country-rockers Heartsfield emerged during the '70s halcyon days of that genre; however, despite major-label releases and arena tours with the likes of the Doobie Brothers, Eric Clapton, and Fleetwood Mac, the group never experienced the success of peers like the Eagles or the Pure Prairie League. The band's most recognizable tune from that era was "Music Eyes," which hit number 95 on Billboard in 1974. Heartsfield were known for their vocal harmonies and layers of rootsy instrumentation (characterized by accents of pedal steel, dobro, banjo, mandolin, dobro, etc.) and have been credited with influencing such monster '90s acts as the Dave Matthews Band and Phish. The group was also known for their grueling, Grateful Dead-like touring ethic, which saw them playing 300 shows a year throughout the '70s. (And, like that aforementioned group, Heartsfield also had a propensity for extended jams.) Heartsfield disbanded in 1981 after a decade together." The band was formed by three Juilliard students, Michael Kamen, Marty Fulterman (Mark Snow) and Dorian Rudnytsky, as well as two rock musicians, Brian Corrigan and Clif Nivison. After the new group's first "gig" at a Juilliard Halloween dance in 1967, they were signed by Atlantic Records. Their debut in discography was in 1968 with this self-named album. The New York Rock & Roll Ensemble broke the tradition by using classical music instruments in rock songs and rock instruments in classical pieces. This fusion, daring at the time, impressed legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein so much that he invited the group to appear at one of his Young People's Concerts with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra where they performed their signature song "Brandenburg" which was based on the first movement of Bach's Fifth Brandenburg Concerto. Brandenburg showed the group at their best: starting off with a "straight" rendition of Bach's music (featuring two oboes, guitar and cello); then migrating slowly but surely into a straight rock song all the while continuing to use Bach's original music for its musical base. Soon after the tour supporting their 1972 album Freedomburger, the band dispersed. 01 - Intro 02 - Sounds Of Time 03 - Began To Burn 04 - Monkey 05 - Trio Sonata No. 1 In C Major, 2nd Movement-Alla Breve F 06 - She's Gone 07 - Poor Pauline 08 - Question 09 - Mr. Tree 10 - You Know Just What It's Like 11 - Studeao Atlantis 12 - Pick Up In The Morning 13 - The Seasons (Fall-Winter-Spring-Summer) LINK
The Gods were an English group founded in 1965. The bandmembers included Mick Taylor (later with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and the Rolling Stones), Brian Glascock and John Glascock (later of Jethro Tull). They were schoolmates from Hatfield and had been playing together as The Juniors (or The Strangers), a band they formed in 1962. Also part of this band were Malcolm Collins and Alan Shacklock. They had a record deal with Columbia. Their first 7 single (Columbia DB7339) appeared in 1964. The Gods were the successors of the Rolling Stones at the famous Marquee Club in London. After recording two albums, Genesis (1968) and To Samuel a Son (1969), they signed with a new record company, recruited Rebel Rousers singer Cliff Bennett and changed their name to Toe Fat which also lasted two years and two albums. To Samuel A Son, The Gods' second album is, like their debut, Genesis, early keyboard-based progressive rock with a psychedelic hangover, vaguely tied into a concept about the experiences of the "Samuel" in the title track. It's more varied in tone than their first record, though, and more surprisingly, a little lighter in touch, though you can still hear some of the bluster of keyboardist Ken Hensley's subsequent group, Uriah Heep.

The Mint Tattoo was born as an offshoot of the legendary 60's proto punk acid band Blue Cheer. Bruce Stevens and Ralph (Burns) Kellogg had played together in Blue Cheer on band's self titled album in 1969, but after that one album, Stevens left the band to pursue other interests. Kellogg stayed on with Blue Cheer until the demise of the band in 1971, but during his tenure with Blue Cheer he reunited with Stevens along with drummer Gregg Thomas to form the band Mint Tattoo. Produced by James William Guercio (Chicago) and engineered by Phil Ramone in New York, Mint Tattoo is a mixture of blues styled original songs, a cover of classic a blues numbers and some rather uninspired, typical for the era hard rock tunes. Mint Tattoo, had opened shows for Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Ten Years After, James Cotton and Janis Joplin.

Black Merda (pronounced "Black Murder”) is an American rock band from Detroit, Michigan, active from the mid 1960s to the early 1970s. They consider themselves to be "the first all black rock band". The core band members are guitarist Anthony Hawkins (aka Wolf), bassist VC L. Veasey (aka Veesee, aka The Mighty V!), and guitarist Charles Hawkins (aka Charlie Hawk), plus original drummer Tyrone Hite. All were born in Mississippi (except Hite, born in Detroit) but came of age in Detroit. Chess released Black Merda’s debut album in 1970, and the band briefly became known as leaders among the burgeoning black rock and heavy funk scene that also included up-and-comers Funkadelic and The Bar-Kays. The album suffered from a lack of promotion due to management changes at Chess Records. 01 - Prophet 02 - Think Of Me 03 - Cynthy-Ruth 04 - Over And Over 05 - Ashamed 06 - Reality 07 - Windsong 08 - Good Luck 09 - That's The Way It Goes 10 - I Don't Want To Die 11 - Set Me Free LINK
Petra is a music group regarded as a pioneer of the Christian rock and contemporary Christian music genres. Formed in 1972 by Bob Hartman, Greg Hough, Bill Glover and John DeGroff, the band took its name from the Greek word for "rock". With a style initially similar to The Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Petra's sound evolved into a more energetic, driving rock sound in the early 1980s akin to Foreigner, Styx and Journey. Throughout the 1980s and into early 1990s, Petra was undoubtedly the world's most popular Christian rock band, with each of its albums during that period selling hundreds of thousands of copies while the band sold out arenas and regularly placed songs at the top of the Christian radio charts. With its music and style, Petra influenced numerous other artists at a time when Christian rock experienced strong opposition from many conservative pastors and churches. Though formally disbanding in 2005, incarnations of Petra have played reunion shows in the years since and plan an album in fall 2010. Beyond Belief is the thirteenth release of the band. It was released in June 20, 1990. In this album the band continues to polish the hard rock/arena rock sound the band had been working on their previous efforts before their praise album (On Fire! and This Means War!). As of 2006, this is the band's most successful album both critically and commercially, and it is considered by most to be the peak of their discography

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds was originally formed in late 1983 by two former members of the Australian band The Birthday Party: Nick Cave (vocals, songwriter, keyboards, harmonica) and Mick Harvey (drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, occasional songwriter). The name of the new project indicated the shift in Cave's role from lead singer, as in The Birthday Party, to band leader, and coincided with his shift in songwriting style from expressionism to detailed lyrical narrative. Cave and Harvey were joined by a semi-fluid group of bandmates, initially including Einstürzende Neubauten member Blixa Bargeld (guitar), Hugo Race (guitar), and former Magazine member Barry Adamson (guitar, bass, piano). After some studio work, the band's premiere public performance was held on New Year's Eve, 1983, in Melbourne, under the name "Nick Cave - Man Or Myth?", followed by a tour. The band then briefly called themselves "Nick Cave and the Cavemen" before adopting the "Bad Seeds" moniker, in reference to the final Birthday Party release, The Bad Seed E.P. The group soon recorded their debut album, From Her to Eternity, released in 1984, which was quickly followed by Race's departure. Henry's Dream is the seventh album, released in spring 1992. There are possible references to John Berryman's series of poems The Dream Songs, which logs the dreams of the protagonist Henry. This album remains a big favourite amongst Bad Seeds fans, although Nick Cave himself was reportedly unhappy with the production by David Briggs. Briggs preferred a "live-in-the-studio" method he had used with Neil Young. This led to Cave and Mick Harvey re-mixing the album, and ultimately to the Live Seeds recordings, as Cave wanted the songs "done justice".

Better Than Ezra is an American alternative rock trio based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Better Than Ezra was formed in 1988 by its four original members - vocalist and guitarist Kevin Griffin; Joel Rundell, the lead guitarist; bassist Tom Drummond; and drummer, Cary Bonnecaze. All four members were attending Louisiana State University at the time of Better Than Ezra's formation. Their first practice also took place in 1988, shortly after the band's formation. The band's first public performance was at Murphy's in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, also in 1988. Though many theories abound, the band refuses to disclose the origin of its name. Fans of the group often refer to themselves as Ezralites. Deluxe has been released by two labels: the original version in 1993 by Swell Records and the 1995 version by Elektra Records. This is the band's best known album for their biggest single "Good." It is also their debut major label album as Surprise was entirely self-released and sold.

Belle and Sebastian are an indie pop band formed in Glasgow in January 1996. Belle and Sebastian are often compared to influential indie bands such as The Smiths, as well as classic acts such as Love, Bob Dylan and Nick Drake. The name Belle & Sebastian is inspired by Belle et Sébastien, a children's book by French writer Cécile Aubry. Lauded by critics, Belle & Sebastian's "wistful pop" has nevertheless enjoyed only limited commercial success. After releasing a number of albums and EPs on Jeepster Records, they are now signed to Rough Trade Records in the United Kingdom and Matador Records in the United States. If You're Feeling Sinister is the second album by Belle & Sebastian, released on the independent label Jeepster Records. The album was released to much critical praise in 1996. Sinister is widely considered to be an indie pop classic, and has garnered a cult following among fans. 01 - The Stars of Track and Field 02 - Seeing Other People 03 - Me and The Major 04 - Like Dylan in the Movies 05 - The Fox in The Snow 06 - Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying 07 - If You're Feeling Sinister 08 - Mayfly 09 - The Boy Done Wrong Again 10 - Judy and The Dream of Horses LINK
