Revolution, an interesting quasi-documentary on the hippie experience in San Francisco, presents a day in the life of Today Malone, an attractive blond hippie. As with many of such films from the era, we're treated to lengthy pro- and anti-hippie banter, hallucination scenes, free-love themed nudity and excellent music. (IMDB) Jack O'Connell produced and directed this patchwork portrait of the hippie scene in 1967. The best parts are the rock band live performance sequences, although some of these clips were staged to appear as though they were filmed at ballroom dance concerts. Which is similar to what other films and TV shows at the time tended to do, rather than film an regularly scheduled club or ballroom dance concert with all the craziness of a real gig in full swing.(IMDB) 01 - Mother Earth - Revolution 02 - Quicksilver Messenger Service - Co'dine 03 - Steve Miller Band - Superbyrd 04 - Steve Miller Band - Your Old Lady 05 - Quicksilver Mess Service - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You 06 - Mother Earth - Without Love (There Is Nothing) 07 - Steve Miller Band - Mercury Blues 08 - Mother Earth - Stranger In My Own Home Town LINK
Zachariah (1971) is a film starring John Rubinstein as Zachariah and Don Johnson as his best friend Matthew. The film is loosely based on Herman Hesse's novel Siddhartha, surrealistically adapted as a musical Western by Joe Massot and the members of the comedy troupe The Firesign Theatre. The band Country Joe and the Fish perform as an inept gang of robbers (more adept as musicians) called "the Crackers," who are always "looking for people who like to draw." In the same vein, Zachariah boasts: "I can think, I can wait, and I'm fast on the draw." This is a parody of Siddhartha's famous line: "I can think, I can wait, I can fast." This film is defined as being part of the Acid Western genre. More precisely, in its own publicity releases, it was called, "The first electric western." This was, in no small part, due to the fact that this film featured several appearances and music supplied by successful rock bands from the era, including the James Gang and Country Joe and the Fish. Fiddler Doug Kershaw has a musical cameo that advances the plot of the film. The movie also features former John Coltrane sideman Elvin Jones as a gunslinging drummer named "Job Cain." Cream's drummer Ginger Baker was originally going to play the part of Zachariah. The Minneapolis group White Lightnin' (an off-shoot of the band The Litter) performs their rock and roll version of the William Tell Overture on the soundtrack. The New York Rock and Roll Ensemble perform Grave Digger on the soundtrack. The soundtrack features songs by the James Gang, Joe Walsh, and Country Joe and the Fish which are not available elsewhere. 01 - Jimmy Haskell - Zachariah Main Title 02 - The James Gang - Laguna Salada 03 - Counrty Joe & The Fish - We're The Crackers 04 - Jimmy Haskell - William Tell Overture 05 - Country Joe & The Fish - All I Need 06 - Doug Kershaw - The Ballad Of John Cain 07 - The James Gang - Country Fever 08 - Jimmy Haskell - The Lonely Ride 09 - Jimmy Haskell - Camino-Used Horse Salesman 10 - Jimmy Haskell - Camino Waltz 11 - New York Rock & Roll Ensemble - Grave Digger 12 - White Lightnin' - Shy Ann 13 - Jimmy Haskell - Mathew 14 - Jimmy Haskell - Zachariah End Title LINK
Candy is a 1968 sex farce film directed by Christian Marquand based on the 1958 novel by Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg, from a screenplay by Buck Henry. The film satirizes pornographic stories through the adventures of its naive heroine, Candy, played by Ewa Aulin. Many established actors are featured in the film, and popular figures such as Sugar Ray Robinson, Anita Pallenberg, and Florinda Bolkan appear in cameo roles. This was the solo film acting debut of then Beatle Ringo Starr. Candy was one of many psychedelic movies that appeared as the '60s ended, along with Yellow Submarine, The Trip, and Head. The film opened to mixed box office, but later became a cult classic from the psychedelic years of film. 01 - The Byrds - Child Of The Universe 02 - Steppenwolf - Birth By Descent 03 - Steppenwolf - Opening Night By Surgery 04 - Steppenwolf - Spec-Rac-Tac-Para-Comm 05 - Steppenwolf - Border Town Blues A Blunt Instrument 06 - Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride 07 - Steppenwolf - Constant Journey 08 - Steppenwolf - Every Mother's Daughter 09 - Steppenwolf - It's Always Because Of This A Deformity 10 - Steppenwolf - Marlon And His Sacred Bird 11 - Steppenwolf - Ascension To Virginity 12 - Steppenwolf - Rock Me LINK
