John Dawson "Johnny" Winter III (born 23 February 1944) is an American  blues guitarist, singer and producer. A Lone Star Kind Of Day is primarily a revealing look back at the music Winter made in his native Texas before hitting the big time. The disc does, however, include two recent recordings. One is an interesting Cajun-influenced take on "Louie Louie," and the other is "We Go Back Quite Ways," written and recorded especially for this project. The latter finds Winter trading verses with former bandmate I.P. "Ike" Sweat, as they fondly recall their early '60s performances in Texas honky-tonks and roadhouses.
In 2003 Winter was ranked 74th in Rolling Stone  magazine list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"

A Detroit-area rock & roll band formed in 1969 by guitarist Cub Koda, Brownsville Station's original members also included Mike Lutz (guitar), T.J. Cronley (drums), and Tony Driggins (bass). Initially influenced by Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and other '50s rockers, their early albums included inspired covers and genre-faithful originals, all presented in Marshall stack, double bass drum bigness. Far more effective as a live act (with Koda's on-stage banter influencing everyone from J. Geils' Peter Wolf to Alice Cooper), the group finally hit paydirt in late 1973 with its number three hit, the Koda-penned "Smokin' in the Boys' Room." (AllMusic)

Hawkwind are an English rock  band, one of the earliest space rock groups. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. They are also a noted precursor to punk rock and now are considered a link between the hippie and punk cultures. Formed in November 1969 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and styles of music. Critic Jim Green describes their trademark sound as characterised by "that gargantuan and impenetrable pre-metal/hardcore drone, those great riffs, that inexorable drive to destinations unknown".
