Legendary UK psych outfit Infinity formed in 1969 from the ashes of Chocolate Soup psych faves the Flies and Cymbaline. The mission: to develop a heavy psychedelic/pop sound, and express it through complex original songs. Thanks to some funky Hammond organ, punchy guitars, and the band s unique harmonies, Infinity were no run of the mill outfit. Upon their return to mainland England from a residency in Jersey, they joined the high-profile NEMS agency, alongside heavy hitters like Pink Floyd, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Soft Machine, and Pretty Things. In late 1969 and early 1970, following support slots with The Searchers and Marmalade, Infinity recorded original material for a proposed album, which was meant to explore time, space, matter, energy and chicken phal, said in some circles to be so hot in a culinary sense that it's temperature approached infinity, or so they have said, with tongue-in-cheek, we have to believe. Sadly, they broke up soon after the sessions. The good news is that the band left behind the recordings presented on this disc, which can now be enjoyed in the digital format after the passage of more than four decades!(Amazon) 01 - Venetian Glass 02 - Space Shanty 03 - Same Girl 04 - Taxman 05 - (I'm In Love With) A Girl Like 06 - I've Got You Under My Skin (In 07 - Time Keeper 08 - Venetian Glass (Instrumental) 09 - Pattern People 10 - (I'm In Love With) A Girl Like 11 - I've Got You Under My Skin 12 - Taxman (Instrumental) LINK
A Heavy Psych/Hard Rock guitarist named John Thomas seems to have as much chance of being recognized as an individual as a fire hydrant in an urban setting. An attached nickname can sometimes be helpful when faced with such a challenge, and this Australian-born performer came up with a good one when he dubbed himself Creepy John Thomas after moving to London.(OoD). "Brother Bat Bone” sounds at times like a mixture of Captain Beefheart and the Pink Fairies. This is a rather irresistable progressive blues/boogie album. A totally inspired effort from start to finish with emotionally strong, at times deeply moving vocals, tremendous axework and a loose, groovy rhythm section. Lick My Decals Off, Baby is a record by Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band released in 1970 on Frank Zappa's Straight Records label. The follow up to his Trout Mask Replica, it is regarded by some critics and listeners as superior to the famous 1969 recording, and was Van Vliet's personal favourite. Don Van Vliet said that the title is an encouragement to "get rid of the labels," and to evaluate things according to their merits rather than according to superficial labels (or "decals"). Musicians on the album were Don Van Vliet, vocals; Elliot Ingber and Bill Harkleroad, guitars; Mark Boston, bass; Art Tripp, marimba, drums, and percussion; and John French, drums. French had been arranger and musical director on Trout Mask Replica. Van Vliet ejected French from the group – both figuratively and literally, by throwing him down a flight of stairs – shortly after Trout Mask Replica was completed, and these roles passed to guitarist Bill Harkleroad. French returned to the group shortly before recording began. The record contains some of Captain Beefheart's most experimental music and remains memorable for both the marimba playing of Art Tripp and for its concise instrumental work. 01 - Lick My Decals Off, Baby 02 - Doctor Dark 03 - I Love You, You Big Dummy 04 - Peon 05 - Bellerin' Plain 06 - Woe-Is-Uh-Me-Bop 07 - Japan In A Dishpan 08 - I Wanna Find A Woman That'll Hold My Big Toe Till I Have To Go 09 - Petrified Forest 10 - One Red Rose That I Mean 11 - Buggy Boogie Woogie 12 - Smithsonian Institute Blues (Or The Big Dig) 13 - Space-Age Couple 14 - Clouds Are Full Of Wine (Not Whiskey Or Rye) 15 - Flash Gordon's Ape LINK
Barbi Benton is an American model, actress and Country Pop singer. Benton is known for her years as a regular on the country music series Hee Haw, appearing in comic skits with other cast members. She left the program after four seasons to concentrate on a more Hollywood-oriented career. She also starred in the short-lived ABC-TV comedy series Sugar Time! about an aspiring female rock group in 1977. Benton was also a recording artist with some success. Her record "Brass Buckles" (1975) was a top five hit on Billboard's country singles chart. Benton has recorded eight albums, the last of which she personally produced in 1979. She also composed the songs, sang them and played piano. Steppenwolf 7 is an album released by the band in 1970, and their fifth studio recording for Dunhill Records. It is the first Steppenwolf album with new bass player George Biondo. While the album featured Steppenwolf's trademark rock and roll sounds, none of the songs were able to make the Top 40. The album featured a classic cover of Hoyt Axton's "Snowblind Friend", their second cover of one of his anti-drug songs (the first being the famous "The Pusher"). Other tracks such as "Who Needs Ya," "Renegade," and "Hippo Stomp" stand out as often-mentioned additions to their catalog. The Asylum Choir was a rock duo active in the late 1960s. It was composed of keyboardist Leon Russell from Lawton, Oklahoma and guitarist Marc Benno from Dallas, Texas. Essentially a studio musician gathering, The Asylum Choir was formed around 1967 and the group's debut album was issued in in 1968. A sophomore album was recorded in 1969, but the album did not see release until late 1971 over contract disputes. The duo had long since disbanded, but the second record sold well due to Russell's successful solo career, peaking at #70 on the Billboard 200 in 1972. Benno also became a successful solo artist later in the decade. The Buckinghams are an American rock band from Chicago, Illinois. They formed in 1966 and went on to become one of the top selling acts of 1967. The band dissolved in 1970 but reformed in 1980, and still tour as part of "oldies" shows in America. In 1965, guitarist Carl Giammarese and bassist Nick Fortuna were invited to join a band called The Centuries. They, along with keyboardist Dennis Miccolis, later became members of another band, The Pulsations, whose members included drummer John Poulos and vocalists George LeGros and Dennis Tufano. By early 1966 LeGros was forced to leave after he was drafted. After winning a local battle of the bands competition, The Pulsations secured a job as the house band on WGN-TV's variety show called All-Time Hits in 1966. The show's producers suggested they adopt a name reflective of the British invasion, which was popular at the time, and the band adopted the name The Buckinghams. The Frost were an American rock band from Alpena, Michigan in the late 1960s, led by singer-guitarist Dick Wagner, who went on to play with Ursa Major, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Dan Page and Kevin Ulgenalp in the 1970s. The bassist was Gordy Garris, drummer was Bob Rigg, Rhythm and Lead Guitarist was Don Hartman. The Frost recorded three albums for Vanguard Records, Frost Music, Rock and Roll Music, and Through the Eyes of Love. The Frost were one of the top Detroit area bands of the era, however very poor album cover artwork, distribution and promotion by Vanguard hampered the band and caused them to miss the national success that other bands like Ann Arbor's Bob Seger, Ted Nugent from Detroit and Grand Funk Railroad from Flint were to achieve. 01 - Jennie Lee 02 - The Family 03 - A Long Way Down From Mobile 04 - Take My Hand 05 - Mystery Man 06 - Baby Once You Got It 07 - Stand In The Shadows 08 - Little Susie Singer (Music To Chew Gum By) 09 - First Day Of May 10 - Who Are You LINK
The Night Shadows were one of the first and longest lived garage bands. They started out in the 50’s hailing from Georgia and first received notoriety when releasing the dirty, perverted garage rock single Garbage Man. The early 60’s were not kind to the Night Shadows as they went through various lineup changes. Other singles followed though, influenced by the British Invasion, utilizing feedback and other current recording techniques. In 1966 a new revived Night Shadows (including Little Phil) released the excellent 60 Second Swinger. It’s similar to the Seed’s efforts from around the same time but the Night Shadow’s cleary had more instrumental prowess and experience behind them. 01 - Prologue (Voice Of Electric Bob) 02 - So Much (1967 Version) 03 - I Can't Believe 04 - Plenty Of Trouble 05 - In The Air 06 - Anything But Lies (Time After Time) 07 - Gimme, Gimme 08 - Don't Hold Your Breath 09 - Listen To My Heart (Demo Session) 10 - Fly High 11 - 60 Second Swinger (Wbad Concert) 12 - Psychedelic Ilusion 13 - Little Phil Jokes With The Audience 14 - Anything But Lies (The Lost Live Version) 15 - Turned On 16 - The Hot Dog Man (Stoned Version) 17 - Epilogue Fly High Reprise 18 - Excerpt From A 1979 19 - The Garbage Man (1961) LINK

Help Yourself, known to their fans as "The Helps", were an English rock band of the early 1970s whose style developed from "American-flavoured country-rock… …to acid-drenched psych.”. Help Yourself formed in London in 1970, originally as a backing band for singer-songwriter Malcolm Morley, who had left Sam Apple Pie and been signed as a solo act by Famepushers. Malcolm Morley – keyboards, guitar, vocals, Richard Treece – guitar, bass, vocals, Dave Charles – drums, percussion, vocals, Ken Whaley – bass, Paul Burton – bass, guitar, vocals, Jonathan "Jojo" Glemser – guitar, Ernie Graham – guitar, vocals, Sean Tyla – guitar, vocals. Spirogyra are a British folk/prog band that recorded three albums between 1971 and 1973, with another original album in 2009. Martin Cockerham (vocals/guitar) and Mark Francis originally formed Spirogyra as a duo in Bolton, Lancashire in the summer of 1967. When Martin went to the University of Kent at Canterbury in 1969 he expanded the band to include fellow students Barbara Gaskin (vocals), Steve Borrill (bass guitar), and Julian Cusack (violin). They were soon spotted by student union entertainments officer Max Hole, who offered to manage them and got them a recording contract with B&C Records. Their debut album, St. Radigunds, was named after the street that their student house was on. It established them as a cult act on the underground club circuit, and sold respectably. 01 - The Future Won't Be Long 02 - Island 03 - Magical Mary 04 - Captain's Log 05 - At Home In The World 06 - Cogwheels Crutches And Cyanide 07 - Time Will Tell 08 - We Were A Happy Crew 09 - Love Is Afunny Thing 10 - The Duke Of Beaufoot LINK
The Purple Gang are a British rock band active intermittently since the 1960s. Although they were associated with the London psychedelic scene, they originated in Stockport, then in Cheshire, as a jugband. The band adopted the name, The Purple Gang, when they changed their image to the well-dressed, clean-cut "gangster" style in the 1960s. In London, they engaged Joe Boyd as their record producer, and shared a studio with Pink Floyd as they recorded their first single, "Granny Takes A Trip" (named after the eponymous shop in the Kings Road). Most of their songs were written by their early members: guitarist Joe Beard, and organist Geoff Bowyer. Some other members were vocalist Pete Walker, jug / banjo player Ank Langley and mandolin / harmonica player Gerry Robinson. Their musical influences and styles are varied, from country and western, through psychedelic, to rock music. Purple Gang Strikes is the debut album of the band, their second album, Night of the Uncool, was recorded and released, with a partially different line-up, 30 years later in 1998. 01 - Auntie Monica 02 - Bootleg Whisky 03 - Viola Lee Blues 04 - The Wizard 05 - Mr. Aldred Jones 06 - Granny Takes A Trip 07 - Overseas Stomp 08 - Freightliner 09 - The Sheik 10 - Rising Sun 11 - Kiss Me Goodnight Sally Green 12 - Carlo's Circus (Unreleased bonus track) 13 - Madam Judge (Unreleased bonus track) 14 - Brown Shoes (Unreleased bonus track) 15 - The King Comes Riding (Unreleased bonus track) LINK

Today! is the eighth studio album by The Beach Boys, and their first of three in 1965. Although few realized the significance of the album at the time, Today! marked a major turning point inside the band's world, and in particular, leader Brian Wilson's personal life. After Pet Sounds, the album is arguably the most acclaimed album of the Beach Boys' career. The album includes the original version of the classic hit, "Help Me, Rhonda". Adam Blessing [Bill Constable] (lead vocals), Bob Kalamasz (lead guitar, backing vocals), Jim Quinn (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Ray Benick (bass guitar), Bill Schwark (drums), Kenny Constable (lead vocals, backing vocals). Formed in Cleveland, OH. Glory is their final album, recorded in 1973. The Damnation Of Adam Blessing - Glory released their final album in 1973, but not under the same name. There were some changes in the group’s direction prior to the release of this album. After being dropped by United Artist, the group broke up and then resurfaced as Glory. Ironically the label Avalanche released the album - they were a subsidiary of UA. Adam Blessing reverted back to his given name Bill Constable, and brother Ken also joined the group on vocals and guitar. Ken had a higher voice than Bill, so this made for a splendid give and take between the two brothers, and some soaring sweet harmonies were the product of that sibling vocal tandem. 01 - Sunny Days 02 - Find Out Lover 03 - I Got A Feeling 04 - Mrs. Walker 05 - You Can Believe 06 - Hot Momma 07 - Get Up 08 - Nightmare 09 - Dawn LINK
The Move, from Birmingham, England, were one of the leading British rock bands of the 1960s. They scored nine Top 20 UK singles in five years, but were among the most popular British bands not to find any success in the United States. Looking On is the third album by The Move, released in the UK in December 1970. The LP is their first to feature Jeff Lynne, their first containing entirely original compositions, and the first on the Fly label, its catalogue number being FLY 1. It includes both their 1970 singles, the Top 10 hit "Brontosaurus," released on Regal Zonophone in March, and the less successful "When Alice Comes Back To The Farm," released on Fly in October. Looking On is generally regarded as the hardest rocking, least popular and most eclectic album in the Move's catalogue, as it presents the band dabbling in heavy metal ("Brontosaurus,") blues, ("When Alice Comes Back to the Farm"), ("Turkish Tram Conductor Blues"), prog-style epics ("Open Up Said the World at the Door"), soul ("Feel Too Good"), or, in the case of the title track, all four styles mashed together. 01 - Looking On 02 - Turkish Tram Conductor Blues 03 - What 04 - When Alice Comes Back To The Farm 05 - Open Up Said The World At The Door 06 - Brontosaurus 07 - Blackberry Way 08 - Something 09 - Curly 10 - This Time Tomorrow 11 - Lightning Never Strikes Twice LINK
The Flock was a Chicago-based jazz-rock band that released two records on Columbia records in 1969 (The Flock) and 1970 (Dinosaur Swamps). The Flock did not achieve the commercial success of other Columbia jazz-rock groups of the era such as Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears, but were most notable for their inclusion of a prominent violin in their recordings. The violinist, Jerry Goodman, went on to become a member of Mahavishnu Orchestra and a solo artist. The members at the time of their 1969 studio recording were Fred Glickstein (guitar, lead vocals), Jerry Goodman (violin), Jerry Smith (bass), Ron Karpman (drums), Rick Canoff (saxophone), Tom Webb (saxophone) and Frank Posa (trumpet). The Flock, from 1969, is the self-titled debut album by The Flock. 01 - Introduction 02 - Clown 03 - I Am The Tall Tree 04 - Tired Of Waiting 05 - Store Bought - Store Thought 06 - Truth LINK
