The Champs were a rock and roll band, most famous for their Latin-tinged instrumental "Tequila". Formed by studio executives at Gene Autry's Challenge Records to record a B-Side for the Dave Burgess (aka Dave Dupree) single, the intended throwaway track became more famous than its A-Side, "Train to Nowhere". "Tequila" went to No. 1 in just three weeks and the band became the first group to go to the top spot with an instrumental that was their first release. The song was recorded at Gold Star Studios in 1958, and in 1959 won the Grammy Award for Best Rhythm & Blues Recording. Band members Chuck Rio - saxophone, vocals, Dave Burgess - guitar, Dale Norris - guitar, keyboards, Bobby Morris - bass, Dean McDaniel - bass, Gen Alden - drums, Paul C Saenz - Lead Guitar and Benjamin Van Norman - Bass. Band members later featured Glen Campbell, Jerry Cole and Seals and Crofts. "Tequila!" was written and sung by the saxophone player Danny Flores, although he was credited as Chuck Rio because he was under contract to another record label at the time. One of the most unique rock groups of the 1960s, The Hello People, was created during late 1967 in New York by producer Lou Futterman. The idea for creating the group stemmed from Marcel Carné's film Children of Paradise (Les Enfants du Paradis). Etienne De Crux, the father of French mime, plays the part of Bapties's father in the film. During the sixties De Crux taught painting to a group of musicians. Since these musicians learned to paint so quickly, De Crux reasoned that musicians could also learn mime and apply it in some new way to create a new form. The manager of the musicians De Crux taught, Lou Futterman, decided he would implement this new concept. He then put together a new group of musicians who would perform in mime makeup and do mime routines between songs, never speaking a word to the audience. Original members: W. S. Tongue - vocal, guitar, Greg Geddes - bass, vocal, Bobby Sedita - guitar, vocal, Larry Tassi - keyboards, vocal, Michael Sagarese - flute and Ronnie Blake - drums. The group recorded for Philips Records, performed at the Café Wha? in Greenwich Village in 1968 and at The Players Theater, upstairs above the Café Wha? Although the group didn't have a hit record they were often seen on major network television shows such as The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and the controversial Smothers Brothers Show. 01 - It's A Monday Kind Of Tuesday02 - Sunrise Meadow03 - A Stranger At Her Door04 - Movin' & Growin'05 - Paisley Teddy Bear06 - (As I Went Down To) Jerusalem07 - Lamplight, Nightlight08 - Mr. Truth Evading, Masquerading Man09 - Paris In The RainLINK

Steeleye Span are a British folk-rock band, formed in 1969 and remaining active today. Along with Fairport Convention they are amongst the best known acts of the British folk revival, and were among the most commercially successful, thanks to their hit singles "Gaudete" and "All Around My Hat". They had 3 top 40 albums. They achieved a certified "gold" record with sales of "All Around My Hat". The name Steeleye Span comes from a character in the traditional song Horkstow Grange (which they did not actually record until they released an album by that name in 1998). Please To See The King is the second album by Steeleye Span, released in 1971. The title of the album is derived from the "Cutty Wren" ceremony. A winter wren in a cage is paraded as if it were a king. This rite was carried out on December 26, Saint Stephen's Day, and is connected to early Christmas celebrations. All songs appearing on the album are traditional. Musically, this was their most electric, dense recording, with loud guitars and strong looping bass lines and no drums. Following extensive and exhausting auditions, the rhythm section was in place. Bread was a rock band from Los Angeles, California. They placed 13 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between 1970 and 1977 and were a primary example of what later was labeled soft rock, releasing a string of well-crafted, melodic soft rock singles. The band consisted of David Gates (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, violin, viola, percussion), Jimmy Griffin (vocals, guitar, keyboards, percussion), Robb Royer (bass, guitar, flute, keyboards, percussion, recorder, backing vocals), Mike Botts (drums; joined in 1970), and Larry Knechtel (bass, guitar, keyboards, harmonica; replaced Royer in 1971). Manna is the third album released by Bread in 1971. The title, like that of the preceding album On the Waters, is a Biblical pun on the name Bread, this time to the manna from Heaven fed to the Israelites. Although this was not literally Bread (the word Manna simply means "What is it?") it has often been metaphorically described as bread from Heaven.01 - Let Your Love Go02 - Take Comfort03 - Too Much Love04 - If05 - Be Kind To Me06 - He's A Good Lad07 - She Was My Lady08 - Live In Your Love09 - What A Change10 - I Say Again11 - Come Again12 - Truckin'LINK

Badfinger was a rock band formed in Swansea, Wales in the early 1960s who became one of the earliest representatives of the post-'60s power pop genre. During the early 1970s the band was at times tagged as the heir apparent to The Beatles, partly because of their close working relationship with them and partly because of their similar sound. The band had four consecutive worldwide hit songs and contributed "Without You," a No. 1 Billboard hit for Harry Nilsson which was covered by hundreds of artists. Magic Christian Music is an album by Badfinger, released in early 1970 on Apple Records. Three tracks from the LP are featured in the film The Magic Christian, which also gives the album its title. However, Magic Christian Music is not an official soundtrack album for the film.

Their first three singles were "Paper Sun", "Hole in My Shoe", and "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush". Quicksilver Messenger Service is an American psychedelic rock band, formed in 1965 in San Francisco and is considered one of the leading acts on the city's psychedelic scene in the mid-to-late 1960s. Quicksilver Messenger Service gained wide popularity in the Bay Area and with psychedelic rock enthusiasts around the globe. Many of their albums ranked in the top 30 of the Billboard Pop charts. Though not ultimately as commercially successful as their contemporaries Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead, the band was integral to the beginnings of their genre. With their jazz and classical influences, as well as a strong folk background, the band attempted to create a sound that was individual and innovative. The Poppy Family was a late 1960s and early 1970s Canadian pop music group, based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Singer/songwriter Terry Jacks met eighteen year old Susan Pesklevits in the late 1960s, and together they formed a band called "The Powerline", which was soon renamed "Winkin' Blinkin' & Nob". At Pesklevits' insistence, the name was eventually changed to "The Poppy Family". The name was chosen when Terry Jacks picked the word Poppy at random from a dictionary. The two were married at approximately the same time that The Poppy Family recorded their first album, and Pesklevits was henceforth known as Susan Jacks. Which Way You Goin' Billy?, released in 1969, was the first album The Poppy Family. They scored their biggest hit with title track "Which Way You Goin' Billy?". The album has yet to be released on modern formats and remains a rare vinyl. Babe Ruth are a rock music group, primarily active through the 1970s, from Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England. Their characteristically 'heavy' sound is marked by powerful vocals from Janita Haan and full arrangements by Alan Shacklock. They are acknowledged as having more commercial success in North America than in their home country. When the group was first formed in 1971, they were called Shacklock after their guitarist Alan Shacklock. Members included Janita Haan and Dave Hewitt, with Dave Punshon and Dick Powell later joining. The first release was their single "Elusive"; their first album, First Base, went gold in Canada, sold well in the US, but had disappointing sales by comparison in the UK. The song "The Mexican" has been covered and mixed many times. Among them, it was covered in 1984 by John "Jellybean" Benitez with vocals by the original singer, Janita Haan. "The Mexican" was mixed into the third track of The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One by Liam Howlett of The Prodigy in 1999. The sleeve design, painting and photography were by Roger Dean. The Third Eye was a Heavy prog-psych group from South Africa. Ron Selby, who played lead guitar in South Africa’s premier heavy-prog band the Third Eye, recruited his kid sister to play organ in the band. And with then-14-year-old Dawn Selby at the keys, the Third Eye released a trio of psychedelic nuggets in 1969-70 that could have been stiff competition for the likes of such similar-sounding acts as Chicago Transit Authority, Alice Cooper, and the Electric Flag had the US and Europe not banned groups from South Africa on account of the growing Apartheid movement there. The scarcity of original copies of these albums, recorded and released on Polydor, make 1969’s Awakening… and its follow-up Searching and 1970’s Brother worth quite a small fortune on the collector’s market. 01 - A Sad Tail02 - Selby's Hospitality03 - Retain Your Half Ticket04 - Stagemakers05 - Awakening06 - I Can't Believe ItLINK

Orang Utan, previously known as Hunter, was a British heavy psych blues rock band from London. Terry "Nobby" Clark (vocals), Mick Clarke (guitar), Sid Fairman (guitar), Paul Roberts (bass) and Jeff Seopardie (drums)."Great one off album from this early 70's UK five piece. Hard Rock with a blues background by the sound of things, great guitar and vocals. This one should appeal to fans of Leafhound, Led Zeppelin, Free etc. Only released in West Germany at the time, their self-titled 1970 album has come to the attention of a wider audience since its cd rerelease on Lizard Records in the late 1990s. Give this one a shot, there's at least one classic track on here, (opener, "I Can See Inside Your Head"), but the rest of the material is of a very high standard too. Vocals are in the Pete French/Paul Rogers style, the feller has a great set of pipes. Just a pity they didn't record more than this one album. As a legacy, it's slim, but groaning with quality.”01 - I Can See Inside Your Head02 - Slipping Away03 - Love Queen04 - Chocolate Piano05 - If You Leave06 - Fly Me High07 - Country Hike08 - Magic PlaygroundLINK
