The Chocolate Watch Band, was a psychedelic rock and garage rock band formed in San Jose, California in 1965. The band had finally broken up indefinitely by 1970 but then reunited in 1999 at a 66/99 show Mike Stax organized in San Diego. They continue to play today at garage rock shows in Europe as well as the States with Little Steven and the Electric Prunes. The band's music was largely described as a blend of 1960s-style garage rock with a distinguishable rolling San Francisco sound. The group's early music appeared to contain blues influences, and later it developed psychedelic elements through use of instrumental experimentation. Ed Cobb was well-known as their producer. The band also appeared in the 1967 film Riot on Sunset Strip and the 1968 film "The Love Ins". The Chocolate Watch Band's resurrected line-up (after their breakup in mid-1967) of Inner Mystique were: Sean Tolby, lead guitar, Bill 'Flo' Flores, bass, Tim Abbott, guitar, Mark Whittaker, drums and Chris Flinders, vocals.

Hearts & Flowers was a Los Angeles folk-rock club band, perhaps most significant as one of the groups that launched the career of Eagles' founding member and guitarist-songwriter, Bernie Leadon. The lineup included Larry Murray (vocals, guitar), Dave Dawson (vocals, guitar, autoharp) and Rick Cunha (vocals, guitar). Leadon replaced Cunha on their second album in 1968. Among venues they played during the mid-1960s, were Los Angeles clubs Ledbetter's, Doug Weston's Troubadour, and the Ashgrove. After recording two albums without major success, the group disbanded in 1968. 01 - Now Is The Time For Hearts And Flowers 02 - Highway In The Wind 03 - Second-Hand Sundown Queen 04 - She Sang Rymns Out Of Tune 05 - Ode To A Tin Angel 06 - When I Was A Cowboy 07 - Legend Of Ol' Tenbrookes 08 - Colour Your Daytime 09 - Two Little Boys 10 - Extra, Extra-Rock & Roll Gypsies LINK

A mysterious figure of the late '60s who put out an interesting eponymous album on the names-can-be-deceptive Chartmaker label. With his funky, keyboard-based rock and full, soulful vocals, Darius sounded like a more eccentric and far moodier, doomier counterpart to Lee Michaels. The record was imaginatively arranged and produced, with flourishes of flamenco guitar, odd echo-tinkles, and some dynamic organ and bass hooks adding to its overall air of idiosyncrasy. It's little known, even among psychedelic collectors, and worthy of exhumation on CD reissue.(AMG) Bobby Joe Ott, from Cleveland, aka Darius, was based in Hollywood, California. Gerry & the Pacemakers are a British rock and roll group prominent during the 1960s. In common with The Beatles, they came from Liverpool and were managed by Brian Epstein. They are most remembered for being the first act to reach number one in the UK Singles Chart with their first three single releases. It was a record that was not equalled for 20 years, until the mid-80s success of fellow Liverpool band Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Gerry & the Pacemakers are the second most successful group from Liverpool to hit the US pop charts, behind only the Beatles.

The Band was an acclaimed and influential rock music group. The original group consisted of Canadians Rick Danko (bass guitar, double bass, fiddle, vocals), Garth Hudson (keyboard instruments, saxophone), Richard Manuel (piano, drums, vocals), Robbie Robertson (guitar, vocals), and American Levon Helm (drums, mandolin, guitar, vocals). All five members were notable musicians in their own right. The members of the Band first came together as they joined rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins' backing group, The Hawks, one by one between 1958 and 1963. Upon leaving Hawkins in 1964, they were known as The Levon Helm Sextet (the sixth member being sax player Jerry Penfound), then Levon and the Hawks (without Penfound). In 1965, they released a single on Ware Records under the name Canadian Squires, but returned as Levon and the Hawks for a recording session for Atco later in 1965. At about the same time, Bob Dylan recruited Helm and Robertson for two concerts, then the entire group for his U.S. tour in 1965 and world tour in 1966. They also joined him on the informal recordings that later became The Basement Tapes. Rock of Ages: The Band in Concert is The Band's fifth album. A live disc recorded during their series of shows at New York City's Academy of Music on December 28–31, 1971, it combines several of their hits with enthusiastic covers of songs originally performed by the likes of Marvin Gaye and Chuck Willis and features a wild organ improvisation by organist Garth Hudson, recorded as 1971 turned to 1972. Bob Dylan appeared on stage for the concert's final four songs, including a version of the rare song "When I Paint My Masterpiece". Nazz was a psychedelic and garage rock band from the 1960s. The band was formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1967 by Todd Rundgren (lead guitar) and Carson Van Osten (bass guitar). Thom Mooney (drums, formerly of the Munchkins), and Robert "Stewkey" Antoni (vocals, keyboards) joined before their first concert, opening for the Doors in 1967. Nazz is the 1968 debut album by Nazz. Though sometimes mistakenly called "The Nazz", the group's official name on all records and press materials is simply, "Nazz", without the definite article. Nazz never became mainstream rock stars, but they did achieve a measure of cult popularity among some listeners, especially future glam rockers and power pop bands like David Bowie and Big Star, in whom Nazz's hard psychedelic influences can be heard. The song "Back of Your Mind" is considered an underground classic.

The Hollies are an English rock group, formed in Manchester in the early 1960s, though most of the band members are from throughout East Lancashire. Known for their distinctive vocal harmony style, they became one of the leading British groups of the era. They enjoyed considerable popularity in many countries, although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966. Along with The Rolling Stones and The Searchers, they are one of the few British pop groups of the early 1960s that have never officially broken up and that continue to record and perform. The Hollies were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. Russian Roulette is a 1976 album by The Hollies. This album is the band's second release in 1976 (the other album being Write On ). This album is notable for being the first one to have been composed entirely by the group's songwriting team. Guitar Boogie is a compilation blues album with Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, with additional credit to The Allstars. Most songs on this album were written by Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck or Jimmy Page. Guitar Boogie was released as a part of a British Archives series and is rare in that form. The album was re-released in the US in 1977 by Pickwick Records. Only two of the guitarists appear on any given track. Jeff Beck does not appear on any of the Page/Clapton numbers. Similarly, Clapton doesn't appear on the Allstars tracks. Jeff Beck's two tracks were recorded in 1963 and can be found on several different compilations. This album was compiled by Richard Robinson.

The Animals were an English music group of the 1960s formed in Newcastle upon Tyne during the early part of the decade, and later relocated to London. Known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon – as exemplified by their number one signature song "The House of the Rising Sun" as well as by hits such as "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" and "It's My Life" – the band balanced tough, rock-edged pop singles against rhythm and blues-oriented album material. Long Island guitarist Faine Jade began performing and recording as a member of the Rustics in the mid-'60s, with basic, energetic, angst-ridden material that differed little from literally thousands of other like-minded garage bands across the country. After a single with the Rustics in 1966, Jade recorded a 45 under his own name in 1967, "It Ain't True," which was rescued from obscurity on the Pebbles, Vol. 8 compilation. His solo LP on the tiny R.S.V.P. label in 1968, Introspection: A Faine Jade Recital, showed a quantum leap in songwriting with reflective, enigmatic lyrics and a swirling but disciplined melodicism. It has ranked among the most coveted collectibles of the psychedelic era. In late '67, Faine recorded demo versions of Cold Winter Sun and I Lived Tomorrow Yesterday, backed by the Bohemian Vendetta, which led to the deal with New York independent label for the Introspection album. The band also backed him on the album, along with Bruce Brandt and Randy Skrha (who filled in for Jeff Jade - who was in Vietnam at the time). Bruce also co-wrote two of the songs on the album. The recent CD reissue, includes a linking piano section Piano Interlude omitted by the record company at the time because of its uncommercial nature, as well as three album demos, and a nineties tribute to John Lennon. Where Introspection captures the arguably naive atmosphere of '67, and naked openness that the use of psychedelics represented, Vietnam polarised political opinion, which Faine articulated on a 1969 recording USA Now before moving to Florida and working with the pre-Allmans outfit Second Coming. Later he rejoined Nick Manzi and Bruce Brandt as Dust Bowl Clementine who released one album, Patchin' Up (Roulette 1970), and opened a studio in Long Island.

Gracious was a British progressive rock band which existed from 1967 to 1971, and released two albums, Gracious! (1970, Vertigo/Capitol) and This Is... (1972, Philips). The roots of the band lay in the long friendship between singer Paul 'Sandy' Davis and guitarist Alan Cowderoy, who met while at the same school in Esher, Surrey, between 1959 and 1965. It was a Catholic school, so when they decided to form a band together, they chose the most controversial name two twelve-year-old boys could come up with - Satan's Disciples! Inevitably, when performing at the school concerts, they had to change the name to The Disciples. Davis was the drummer and vocalist, and Cowderoy played lead; two other school friends played bass and rhythm. In 1968, Martin Kitcat and Mark Laird joined on Hohner electric piano and bass respectively. Davis was still drumming as well as singing, but Robert Lipson, who played in a rival Esher band, agreed to join, allowing Davis to take the front of stage for the first time. The band's early sound was influenced by Cream and the British blues movement, and one of their first professional recordings was a cover of a John Mayall song. At one point the group was rehearsing in a building below Eric Clapton's London flat, and one day Clapton popped in during a rehearsal and ended up jamming with them. More pivotal, however, was interest from Pete Townshend which led to a support slot for The Who on a tour in 1968.
