Three Man Army was a British hard rock band active in the first half of the 1970s. The group was formed by Adrian Gurvitz and Paul Gurvitz, formerly of The Gun. Following the band's dissolution, Adrian played with Buddy Miles and Paul played with Parrish & Gurvitz, then reunited as Three Man Army. Their debut album, A Third of a Lifetime, featured several drummers, including Miles, Carmine Appice (of Vanilla Fudge) and Mike Kellie (from Spooky Tooth). Tony Newman, who had previously played with Sounds Incorporated and Rod Stewart, joined for the group's next two albums, and a fourth album was planned but never recorded. Newman then left to play with David Bowie, and the Gurvitzes united with Ginger Baker as the Baker Gurvitz Army. For Mahesha, their second album, the power trio lineup stabilized with the recruitment of Tony Newman for the drummer's chair. Adrian Gurvitz is mostly known for the 1982 worldwide hit ballad "Classic". 01 - My Yiddishe Mamma 02 - Hold On 03 - Come Down To Earth 04 - Take Me Down From The Mountain 05 - Woman 06 - Mahesha 07 - Take A Look At The Light 08 - Can I Leave The Summer 09 - The Trip LINK
Some of Felix Cavaliere's funkiest songs, Crusaders bassist Robert "Pops" Popewell, the Butterfield Blues Band horn section (with David Sanborn), soulful vocals and jazz solos combine to create another great but overlooked album by the Rascals. With a groove at times like Tower of Power, at others like latter-day Sly & the Family Stone, this, the band's final recording, is worth seeking out. The CD reissue on Sundazed adds two previously unreleased bonus tracks, the Cavaliere originals "Prove It" and "Love Is a Woman."(AMG) 01 - Lucky day 02 - Saga of New York 03 - Be on the real side 04 - Jungle walk 05 - Brother tree 06 - Island of real 07 - Hummin' song 08 - Echoes 09 - Buttercup 10 - Time will tell 11 - Lament 12 - Prove it 13 - Love is a woman LINK
The Souther Hillman Furay Band (SHF) was a country rock supergroup led by singer-songwriters Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield, Poco), Chris Hillman (The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas), and J.D. Souther (Longbranch Pennywhistle, noted songwriter for Linda Ronstadt and Eagles). The band recorded two albums during the 1970s before breaking up due to the disagreements between the members. With producer Tom Dowd, known for his work at Atlantic Records, at the helm, the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band seemed to be distancing itself a bit from its country-rock roots with its second release, the appropriately titled Trouble in Paradise. Here the band expands on the funkier aspects of its debut album. The band was finished by 1976 following Trouble in Paradise's poor showing, with each of its primary members recording solo records for Asylum within the year. Mighty Baby were formed in 1968 from the ashes of The Action. They released two albums, Mighty Baby (which appeared in December 1969, but had been recorded a year earlier) and A Jug Of Love (October 1971). Over the course of 1970 several members of the band became Muslims (adherents of the Sufi order), and their second album reflected the spiritual journey they had embarked on, sounding little like its predecessor. They were the closing act on the first day of the Isle of Wight Festival 1970. Egg were an English progressive rock band formed in January 1969. The founding members of the group were Dave Stewart who played organ, Mont Campbell on bass and vocals and drummer Clive Brooks. Released in 1971, The Polite Force is the second album of Egg. It is often regarded as the band’s best work, being a much more serious effort than their debut album. The music is a fine example of early English progressive rock, bearing many similarities to Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Although the music of Egg does have occasional singing, it is mostly instrumental and as such relies on tight ensemble playing and interesting thematic and melodic material with extended chordal harmonies and irregular time signatures. 01 - A Visit To Newport Hospital 02 - Contrasong 03 - Boilk (Incl. Faithfull was still known primarily as a pop singer when she put out North Country Maid, but this is in fact very close to a pure folk album, with a bit of influence from pop, rock, blues, and jazz. Largely overlooked even by Faithfull fans, it's actually a quite respectable effort, and probably her best LP (other than greatest-hits compilations) from the time when her voice was still on the high side. Ably backed by session men including guitarists Jon Mark and Jim Sullivan, she interprets mostly traditional material on this record, including "She Moved Through the Fair," "Wild Mountain Thyme," "Sally Free and Easy," and "Scarborough Fair." There are some mid-'60s covers too, though, including Donovan's "Sunny Goodge Street" and Tom Paxton's "Last Thing on My Mind." Sometimes, when the bass gets prominent and the arrangements swing, this isn't too far from early Pentangle, as unexpected as that comparison is. The use of sitar on "She Moved Through the Fair" and "Wild Mountain Thyme" is adventurous, and she sings pretty well throughout, with dignity and purity if not utmost imagination or grit. The 1990 CD reissue on Deram U.K. adds three worthwhile bonus tracks: "The Most of What Is Least" (from a 1965 EP) and alternate versions of "Come My Way" and "Mary Anne" (the originals of which had appeared on her 1965 album, Come My Way). Kaleidoscope (originally The Kaleidoscope) was an American psychedelic folk and ethnic band who recorded 4 albums and several singles for Epic Records between 1966 and 1970. The group was formed in 1966. The original members were: David Lindley, Solomon Feldthouse, Chris Darrow, Chester Crill (a.k.a. Max Budda, Max Buda, Fenrus Epp, Templeton Parcely) and John Vidican. Side Trips was Kaleidoscope's 1967 debut album. It was released in June 1967, while it was recently re-released on vinyl by Sundazed Records (2007). The album has a raw, non-limited instrumental mentality, for each member played many instruments; for example, David Lindley played guitar, banjo, fiddle, and mandolin, Solomon Feldthouse played saz, bouzouki, dobro, vina, oud, doumbek, dulcimer, fiddle, guitar, and including vocals too. While Chester Crill (aka Fenrus Epp and Max Buda) played violin, viola, bass, keyboards, and harmonica, Chris Darrow plays bass, guitar, mandolin, and additional vocals; and John Vidican on percussion. 01 - Egyptian Gardens 02 - If The Night 03 - Hesitation Blues 04 - Please 05 - Keep Your Mind Open 06 - Pulsating Dream 07 - Oh Death 08 - Come On In 09 - Why Try 10 - Minnie The Moocher LINK
Aorta was a highly talented rock band from Rockford, IL that released two albums throughout 1969 and 1970. The band was originally known as the Exceptions, a popular soul rock group that played around the Chicago area and released a handful of singles. n 1969 Columbia released this startling record which was a mix of psychedelia, soul, jazz, folk, and rock. The album was housed in a beautiful, graphic sleeve that has always overshadowed the great music from within. Musically speaking, Aorta’s sound comes close to Boston band Listening or even the more psychedelic aspects of early Blood, Sweat and Tears during its Al Kooper phase. There seems to be some kind of concept that reoccurs under the Mein Vein theme. Aorta is solid throughout though, featuring strong musicianship, inventive studio wizardry, superb songs with a healthy dose of fuzz guitar and wonderful string and horn arrangements. 01 - Main Vein 02 - Heart Attack 03 - What's In My Mind's Eye 04 - Magic Bed 05 - Main Vein II 06 - Sleep Tight 07 - Catalyptic 08 - Main Vein III 09 - Sprinkle Road To Cork Street 10 - Ode To Missy Mxyzosptlk 11 - Strange 12 - A Thousand Thoughts 13 - Thoughts & Feelings-Main Vein IV LINK

The Flying Burrito Brothers was an early country rock band, best known for its influential debut album, 1969's The Gilded Palace of Sin. Although the group is most often mentioned in connection with country rock legends Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, the group underwent many personnel changes. After the release of The Byrds' groundbreaking Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Gram Parsons left The Byrds on the eve of a South African tour. Chris Hillman, the group's bass player, soon left as well and eventually joined Parsons in a new band, The Flying Burrito Brothers, as guitarist. Their first album as The Flying Burrito Brothers was The Gilded Palace of Sin. The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other is the second album by Van der Graaf Generator. It was released in 1970. The album was reissued in re-mastered form, with two bonus tracks, in 2005. While this is the second album in the Van der Graaf Generator catalogue, it is really the first proper album by the band. Their previous album, The Aerosol Grey Machine had been written and recorded as a solo record by singer and main songwriter Peter Hammill, but due to a deal with the record company, was released under the Van der Graaf Generator name. The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other was recorded at Trident Studios, London, 11-14 December 1969.

Grand Funk Railroad is an American rock band that was highly popular during the 1970s. Grand Funk Railroad sold more than 25 million records, toured constantly, packed arenas worldwide, and received four RIAA gold albums during 1970, the most for any American group that year. The current Grand Funk Railroad lineup uses the nickname "The American Band", a reference to the 1973 hit "We're an American Band". A popular take on the band during its heyday was that, although the critics hated them, audiences loved them. The band's name is a play on words of the Grand Trunk Railroad, a railroad line that ran through the band's home town of Flint, Michigan. Grand Funk is Grand Funk Railroad's second studio album, and was released in December 1969 by Capitol Records. It was produced by Terry Knight and engineered by Ken Hamann.
