The Kickstands were one of writer and producer Gary Usher's studio amalgams that made use of veteran L.A. session players in the early to mid-'60s to produce album after album of hot rod and surf tunes. With players from the so-called Wrecking Crew, including Jerry Cole, Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer, Leon Russell, Glen Campbell, and with Chuck Girard handling most of the vocals, the Kickstands officially released one album, Black Boots & Bikes, on Capitol Records. The album had a somewhat darker hue than most of Usher's sunshine and surf productions, and tracks like "Death Valley Run" and "Slow Ride South" are definitely worth seeking out for fans of Usher and the hot rod/surf genre.

Love Is is a double album by Eric Burdon and The Animals which was released in 1968 in both the United Kingdom and United States. It was the last album released before The Animals' second dissolution in 1969. This album captured the only studio work of Animals and future Police guitarist Andy Summers; he later wrote that the recording of Traffic's "Coloured Rain" on this album contained "one of the longest guitar solos ever recorded until this point ... a 'soaring hymn to ecstasy' style solo that is so long that I find it impossible to play in a full trance state and still come out at the right place, so Zoot [Money] stands in the studio, counting the whole way, and at bar 189 he gives me the cue out." According to Summers, this solo earned him a "slight legendary reputation. Eric Burdon — vocals, John Weider — vocals, guitar, Zoot Money — vocals, piano, organ, bass, Andy Summers — guitar and Barry Jenkins — drums.

Five Americans was a 1960s American band, most famous for the song "Western Union", which reached #5 in the U.S. Billboard chart, and was their only single to chart in the Top 20. The Five Americans, previously known as The Mutineers, were from Durant, Oklahoma (Southeastern State College). For a short while after their hits "I See The Light", "Western Union", "Sound of Love", "Evol Not Love" and "Zipcode", they toured. However, their manager, Jon Abdnor Senior, president and owner of Abnak Records, was allowed control of their finances. After Abdnor's death in 1996, all rights to their songs should have reverted to the original group, but Sundazed Records bought the original tapes. The Five Americans had at least five singles in, or close to, the Top 40 and are now receiving the sales and publishing royalties. The Five Americans broke up in 1969. The Pretty Things are an English rock and roll band from London, who originally formed in 1963. They took their name from Bo Diddley's 1955 song "Pretty Thing" and, in their early days, were dubbed by the British press the "uglier cousins of the Rolling Stones". This is a compilation of a decade of live performaces for the BBc.

The Thunder Mugs were an obscure late '60 band from California that recorded an album's worth of songs for Bill Holmes's All American Records label. Although the band never released a full album during their hey day, they did manage a single in 1969, "Motion Tree" b/w "Captain Midnight," which atteracted some media attention and critical praise. The band was made up of Dennis Bassetti (bass, vocals), Bob Jonte (drums ) Jack Lutz (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Jerry Roy (lead guitar and vocals). The music on the band's only album, On The Spot was entirely composed by Jack Lutz and is predominantly soft psychedelic pop with good guitar, a few effects and a very British sound. The material on the album offers good period charm and features a few stand out songs that if they were released in Britain in 1967, could have easily become hits.(KP)

Heavy Rock Progressive (and sometimes acoustic) sounds of Duffy are featured on this very desirable album, and the group have become quite a firm favourite amongst rock and blues audiences. Very nice and interesting band; recommended for old rock lovers!. Little info about this excellent British band. Stuart "The Queen" Reffold (lead vocals, harp, percussion), Barry "Fruity" Coote (lead guitar, 12-string guitar, acoustic guitar), Joe Nanson (vocals, keyboards), Patrick "Patty" Sarjeant (bass, vocals), Will "Wombat" Wright (drums, percussion). This album was recorded in 1971 and released only in Germany. A reissue of 1974/75, better known than that of 1971, has caused, to think that this is the second album of the band, but the second is Scruffy Duffy from 1973, Just In Case You're Interested from 1971, is the first album of the band, or at least seems to be the first of two, but other sources speak of an edition of Scruffy Duffy from 1970, originally released on Chapter One label, and in such case, this disc would be the second. All a big mystery.

The Fugs are a band formed in New York in late 1964 by poets Ed Sanders and Tuli Kupferberg, with Ken Weaver on drums. Soon afterward, they were joined by Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber of the Holy Modal Rounders. The band's original core members, Ed Sanders, Tuli Kupferberg, and Ken Weaver, were joined at various times in the 1960s by a number of others, some of whom were noted session musicians or members of other bands. These included Weber and Stampfel, bassist John Anderson, guitarist Vinny Leary, guitarist Peter Kearney, keyboardist Lee Crabtree, guitarist Jon Kalb, guitarist Stefan Grossman, singer/guitarist Jake Jacobs, guitarist Eric Gale, bassist Chuck Rainey, keyboardist Robert Banks, bassist Charles Larkey, guitarist Ken Pine, guitarist Danny Kortchmar, clarinetist Perry Robinson, and drummer Bill Wolf. A satirical and self-satirizing rock band with a political slant, they have performed at various war protests — against the Vietnam War and since the 1980s at events around other U.S. involved wars. The band's often frank and almost always humorous lyrics about sex, drugs, and politics have caused a hostile reaction in some quarters.Virgin Fugs is a 1967 album by The Fugs. While it is their third released album, it consists of outtakes from the two 1965 sessions for their first album, The Village Fugs (also released as The Fugs First Album). While that album emphasized the second recording session, this compilation favors the first, making this arguably their chronologically "real first" album. It was released on ESP Disc, possibly without the foreknowledge or permission of the Fugs. Their site refers to it as a bootleg, though it was distributed through the same channels as their authorized previous ESP album.

The Box Tops were a Memphis rock group of the second half of the 1960s. They are best known for the hits "The Letter," "Neon Rainbow," "Soul Deep," "I Met Her in Church," and "Cry Like A Baby," and are considered a major blue-eyed soul group of the period. They performed a mixture of current soul music songs by artists such as James and Bobby Purify and Clifford Curry, pop tunes such as "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Keith Reid, Gary Brooker and Matthew Fisher of Procol Harum, and songs written by their producers, Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham, and Chips Moman. Vocalist Alex Chilton went on to front the powerpop band Big Star and to launch a career as a solo artist, during which he occasionally performed songs he had sung with the Box Tops. Alex Chilton - guitar, lead vocals, Gary Talley - lead guitar, vocals, Bill Cunningham - bass, vocals, Danny Smythe - drums, vocals, John Evans - keyboards, vocals. Acid-punk outfit William Penn and His Pals formed at the College of San Mateo in late 1964; originally dubbed the DiscCounts, the founding lineup comprised singer Neil Holtmann, guitarist Mike Dunn, bassist Steve Sweet and drummer Ron Cox. Keyboardist Dave Lovell signed on in early 1965, and a few months later the group significantly overhauled its lineup and look--adopting the moniker William Penn and His Pals, the band (now Holtmann, Cox, Lovell, guitarist Mike Shapiro and bassist Steve Leidenthal) adopted Revolutionary War-era stage garb that included ruffled shirts and tri-cornered hats. The addition of former Nomads guitarist Jack Shelton swelled the roster to a six-piece, and for a short time, the lineup also included a second drummer, Mickey Hart, who would later sign on with the Grateful Dead. In early 1966 keyboardist Gregg Rolie replaced Lovell--in time he assumed the lion's share of vocal duties as well, resulting in Holtmann's dismissal from the group. William Penn and His Pals were a regular presence on the Bay Area live scene, opening for the Jefferson Airplane, Paul Revere and the Raiders and Them; in 1966, they cut their lone single "Swami" (credited to the William Penn Fyve), later anointed an underground classic thanks to its inclusion on the third Pebbles collection. A deal with the Fantasy label was pending, but in 1967 the group dissolved, with Rolie subsequently joining Santana.(Jason Ankeny)

Ultimate Spinach was a psychedelic/hard rock/blues band originally from Boston. In their '60's heyday they specialized in lengthy songs such as "Ballad of the Hip Death Goddess", from Ultimate Spinach (1968) and "Genesis of Beauty", from Behold And See (1968). Since 1970 the band have largely abandoned the psychedelic sounds and have (since at least 1975) dropped all of the '60's songs from their setlists (with the exception of 'Ballad Of The Hip Death Goddess' and a few from the third album). This is an ultra rare live recording of Ultimate Spinach in a fantastic clear sound-quality. A must-have, if you like the Bosstown-Sound. It's a perfect performance of the leaders of this specific style, merging psychedelic, jazz and proto-progressive elements, which makes this concert an unforgetable listening. They play in front of a handful audience creating a very familiar communal athmosphere.(Mutant)

Trapeze were an English rock band formed in March 1969, by vocalist John Jones and guitarist/keyboardist Terry Rowley (who named the band), with guitarist Mel Galley, singer/bassist Glenn Hughes, and drummer Dave Holland. The band had a fairly fluid line up, finally dissolving in 1994, and although they never found commercial success themselves, several members went on to join better known bands, including Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, and Uriah Heep. The core and most familiar line-up of the band was Glenn Hughes, Mel Galley, and Dave Holland. After Glenn Hughes' departure in June 1973, Galley and Holland kept the band together with constantly varying members until 1979, when Holland went on to join Judas Priest. Holland tried to revive the band in 1990, after leaving Priest, but the band finally broke up in 1994. Their first three albums remain their best known and most commercially successful. Trapeze is the 1970 debut album by the band. The album was produced by John Lodge, of Moody Blues fame. The sound on this particular album is a far cry from the blues-based hard rock the band would become well-known for. The band released another album also named Trapeze in 1976.

U.K. were a short-lived British progressive rock supergroup active from 1977 until 1980. Singer/bassist John Wetton and drummer Bill Bruford had worked together in King Crimson from 1972-4, when guitarist Robert Fripp disbanded the group. Wetton and Bruford continued to work together on ideas. In September 1976, they worked on forming a band with keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who had previously worked with Bruford in Yes. The project was stopped by Wakeman's label. According to Bruford, "A&M Records were unwilling to let their 'star,' Wakeman, walk off with a used, slightly soiled King Crimson rhythm section, and the idea failed." Bruford and Wetton next asked guitarist Robert Fripp to reform King Crimson. When Fripp declined, Bruford and Wetton decided that each would bring in a musician of his choice to form a new band. Wetton brought in keyboardist/violinist Eddie Jobson, whom Wetton knew from his work with Roxy Music in 1976. Bruford recruited guitarist Allan Holdsworth (formerly of Soft Machine and Gong) who had played guitar on Bruford's 1977 debut solo album, Feels Good to Me. U.K. released their self-titled debut album in 1978 and followed it with a supporting tour. Following two lengthy American tours (June–October 1978), first Holdsworth and then Bruford departed U.K. over musical differences, going on to form the jazz rock fusion group Bruford.

Triumvirat was a German progressive rock trio that formed in 1969 in Cologne, Germany. The founding members were: keyboardist/composer Hans-Jürgen Fritz, drummer/lyricist Hans Bathelt, and bassist Werner Frangenberg. During its early years, Triumvirat initially played Top 40 songs at local venues in Cologne. The Nice and Emerson, Lake & Palmer heavily influenced Triumvirat’s musical direction and the band incorporated some of Nice/ELP music into their repertoire (Rondo among others). In fact, at the height of their fame during the 70’s prog rock era, Triumvirat was often referred to as the ‘German Emerson, Lake & Palmer’ or ‘ELP clone’ due to Fritz's classical virtuosity on keyboards and synthesizers. The LP Old Loves Die Hard was released in the United States and some other markets with a different cover from the European and later the CD edition. It featured a cornered mouse seen through a magnifying hand lens.

As with the Kinks-Size album, it is made up mainly of songs not released on an equivalent UK LP. The album charted, peaking at number 47. The album takes all four tracks from the UK Kwyet Kinks EP (including both sides of the recent hit US single "A Well Respected Man"), adding "Naggin' Woman" (left off the US version of their previous LP, Kinda Kinks), recent US singles "Who'll Be the Next in Line" (its B-side was already included on the US version of Kinda Kinks), "See My Friends"/"Never Met a Girl Like You Before" and B-side "I Need You" (A-side "Set Me Free" had again already been included on the US Kinda Kinks LP) as well as two older tracks. "It's Alright" was the B-side of breakthrough 1964 single "You Really Got Me" but had as yet not been included on a US LP. "Louie Louie", another 1964 track, had however already been included on Kinks-Size. This was the last US only studio album released by the Kinks. Starting with The Kink Kontroversy, Reprise issued albums identical to the UK versions.

The Music Machine (1965–1969) was an American garage rock and psychedelic (sometimes referred to as garage punk) band from the late 1960s, headed by singer-songwriter Sean Bonniwell and based in Los Angeles. The band sound was often defined by fuzzy guitars and a Farfisa organ. Their original look consisted of all-black clothing, (dyed) black moptop hairstyles and a single black glove. The group came together as The Ragamuffins in 1965, but became The Music Machine in 1966. In addition to Bonniwell, the original line-up consisted of Ron Edgar (drums), Mark Landon (guitar), Keith Olsen (bass), and Doug Rhodes (organ). In 2000, this Bonniwell Music Machine album was released on Sundazed Records. This is a collection of songs from the unreleased 1969 album, as well as demo tracks from the band's Raggamuffin days in 1965.

The Seeds were an American rock band. The group, whose repertoire spread between garage rock and acid rock, are considered one of the pioneers of punk rock. Lead singer Sky Saxon had a musical career that went back to pre-Beatle music days, when he recorded a few 45s under the name Richie Marsh. Born in Salt Lake City, he was based in Los Angeles from the early 1960s. The Seeds were formed in 1965 with Saxon joining as a response to an advertisement. Keyboardist Daryl Hooper was a major factor in the band's sound; the band was one of the first to utilize keyboard bass. Guitarists Jan Savage and Jeremy Levine with drummer Rick Andridge completed the original quintet, but Levine left shortly after the first recording sessions for personal reasons. Although Sky Saxon is usually credited as bass player, he did not play bass on any of the Seeds' recordings. This was handled by session men, usually one Harvey Sharpe. On stage, keyboardist Daryl Hooper would handle the bass parts via a separate bass keyboard, in the same way as Ray Manzarek did with the Doors. Their first two albums are today considered classics of '60s garage music. A later album (Future, 1967) was full-blown psychedelic rock, with ornate flower-themed graphics to match, and another was devoted to the blues (with liner notes by Muddy Waters).

The Twilights were an Australian rock music group of the mid to late 1960s. Alongside their own career successes, The Twilights are also notable for the inclusion of vocalist Glenn Shorrock, who later fronted Axiom, Esperanto and Little River Band, and guitarist Terry Britten who went on to become an internationally successful songwriter and producer and pen major hits for artists such as Tina Turner. Alongside The Easybeats and The Masters Apprentices, The Twilights are widely considered to be one of the most significant Australian rock groups of the 1960s. Highly popular bands with teenage audiences, they were renowned for their musical excellence and live prowess, as well as their on-stage humour, and they were held in high respect by fellow musicians. The group is also notable as one of the few major Australian rock bands of the period to retain the same personnel for virtually all of its career. Like most of their contemporaries, they began as a cover band, playing accomplished renditions of hits by popular overseas bands of the era such as The Beatles, The Who and The Small Faces, and their early hits in Australia were all cover versions. Frank Barnard - drums (1964–65), Peter Brideoake – rhythm guitar, vocals, Terry Britten – lead guitar, vocals, John Bywaters - bass, Clem "Paddy" McCartney – lead vocals, Laurie Pryor - drums (1965–69) and Glenn Shorrock – lead vocals.

Titanic was a rock band from Norway, which also included a British member in its line-up. It was first active from 1969 to 1979, and also reformed twice. The group was made up of Kenny Aas, Kjell Asperud, John Lorck, Janny Løseth, Roy Robinson (lead singer) and for a short time around their chart success, John Williamson. They formed in 1969, and released several successful albums and singles before disbanding in 1979. The main composer was the group founder Janny Loseth, with Roy Robinson supplying the primarily English language based lyrics. In October 1971 Titanic reached Number 5 in the UK Singles Chart, with their instrumental track, "Sultana". It was performed in the style of the then popular band, Santana. The tune also appeared on their Titanic's album Sea Wolf. Eagle Rock from 1973 is the third release of the band.

Santo & Johnny were an Italian-American rock and roll duo from Brooklyn, New York, comprising brothers Santo and Johnny Farina. Santo and Johnny Farina were born in Brooklyn, New York. Their father was drafted into the Army while they were children and was stationed for some time in Oklahoma. After hearing a steel guitar on the radio, he wrote to his wife, "I'd like the boys to learn to play this instrument". Upon returning from World War II, the boys' father found a music teacher who gave the boys steel guitar lessons. When Santo was a teenager, he was able to get a local music store to modify an acoustic guitar, allowing him to play it like a steel guitar.

The Konrads were David Bowie's first professional band. The group consisted of: David Jones, (David's real name), (vocals, tenor saxophone), Neville Wills (guitar), Alan Dodds (guitar), Dave Crook (drums), George Underwood (vocals). George Underwood left after a short time. Apparently the name Kon-rads came about whilst they were appearing with Jess Conrad, who introduced them as "my Conrads". The hyphen was removed at David's insistence. By the end of 1962 David Hadfield had replaced Dave Crook on drums. Also joining the band were Rocky Shahan (real name Chaudhari) on bass guitar and on vocals were Roger Ferris, and two sisters Christine and Stella Patton (now Gall). David changed his surname to 'Dave Jay' because he was inspired by Peter Jay And The Jaywalkers, who according to David were only one of two British bands that 'knew anything about saxophones'. On Friday, August 30th, The Konrads entered Decca Studios, Broadhurst Gardens in West Hampstead for the first time and cut their only recorded record entitled: 'I Never Dreamed'. The song was written by David, Roger Ferris and Alan Dodds, the main vocals are by Roger Ferris, with David taking the harmonies. Several acetates were cut by Decca. Drummer David Hadfield said the song concerned an 'air crash'. Soon after this recording, David left the band, though the band stayed together playing the club circuit and even toured as the opening act with The Rolling Stones. David said he became dissatisfied with The Konrads because of their choice of song repertoire. He wanted to play more blues numbers instead of the pop standards they chose to cover.
