Manassas was an American  rock  band, formed by Stephen Stills in 1971. This occurred just after Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young were re-united on stage, during a Manassas concert, at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom. Passarelli and Lala went to Stills' backing band. Harris, Perkins and Hillman joined the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band.

Steely Dan is an American rock band; its core members are Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. The band's popularity peaked in the late 1970s, with the release of seven albums blending elements of jazz, rock, funk, R&B, and pop. Rolling Stone magazine has called them "the perfect musical antiheroes  for the Seventies.  The band's music is characterized by complex jazz-influenced structures and harmonies played by Becker and Fagen along with a revolving cast of rock and pop studio musicians. Steely Dan's "cerebral, wry and eccentric" lyrics, often filled with sharp sarcasm, touch upon such themes as drugs, love affairs, crime, and their true-to-life "contempt of west coast hippies." Can't Buy a Thrill is the first album by Steely Dan. Originally released in 1972, the album was a huge success. It went gold, and then platinum, peaking at #17 on the charts. In 2003, the album was ranked number 238 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

String Driven Thing were a 1970s folk-rock band from Scotland, led by husband and wife Chris Adams and Pauline Adams and featuring the electric violin of Graham Smith. String Driven Thing formed as a three part harmony folk band in 1967 with the Adamses and guitarist John Mannion and put out a self-titled album on the small independent Concord label (copies of which are collectable and difficult to find) although some way from their later Charisma label output which was much more folk-rock. The group moved from Scotland to London and Chris Adams decided to try and take the band away from its folk roots into the folk-rock genre where his song writing abilities, which often feature hard-bitten bitter observations capturing the harsher side of life, would be seen to better effect. He met up with classically-trained violinist Graham Smith and folk guitarist Colin Wilson, who moved to bass, but soon afterwards lost John Mannion who did not think the new direction suited him. This is the first album.

The Dakotas is a group of British musicians, which initially convened as a backing band in Manchester, England. However, they are most closely associated with the singer Billy J. Kramer, a Liverpudlian who was the lead vocalist for the group during the 1960s. In the USA they are regarded as part of the British invasion. Billy J. Kramer is a former British Invasion/Merseybeat singer. In sharing Brian Epstein as a manager with The Beatles he enjoyed access to the songwriting of Lennon and McCartney, recording several of their original compositions. With record producer George Martin, the song "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" was a number two UK Singles Chart hit  in 1963, and was backed by another tune otherwise unreleased by The Beatles, "I'll Be on My Way". After this impressive breakthrough another Lennon/McCartney pairing "Bad to Me" c/w "I Call Your Name" reached number one. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. "I'll Keep You Satisfied" ended the year with a respectable number four placing.

Every Mothers' Son was a rock band formed in New York City in 1967. Brothers Dennis and Lary Larden had originally performed as a folk  duo. In the formation of Every Mothers' Son, they were joined by pianist/organist  Bruce Milner, drummer Christopher Augustine and bassist Schuyler Larsen. In early 1967, the group was signed to the MGM Records label (supposedly because management saw the band's clean-cut image as an antidote to the hippie influx) and recorded this self-titled, eleven-song LP. The album contained the Wes Farrell-Jerry Goldstein composition "Come On Down To My Boat", which shot to #6 on the Billboard charts in July 1967.

The roots of Boa can be found in Auburn Heights, Michigan in 1969 when high school student Ted Burris (bass, vocals, organ) enlisted fellow student Bob Maledon (piano, bass, organ, vocals), who he had seen jamming at a mutual friend's house. They met at Maledon's garage to play, where Paul Manning (guitar, vocals) heard the racket the twosome were making and had to be involved. The three continued jamming until deciding it was time to add other member. Brian Walton was recruited to play keyboards, and, after trying out numerous drummers, Richard Allen filled the drum seat. They called themselves Anvil and performed cover songs as well as a few band originals. In 1970 Anvil recorded an album at a Detroit studio that was never released, although a few acetates were made, before breaking up due to changing musical tastes. The members, however, got back together in 1971 and decided to give recording another shot. Instead of dusting off the Anvil moniker, the band chose to rename itself Boa. They recorded Wrong Road live on a two-track in a warehouse in Auburn Heights, and the album was privately pressed and released in March of 1971 with Manning taking the pseudonym Captain Hook since he was playing with another band at the time. Almost immediately after, the band broke up again and went their separate ways. (via allmusic.com)

David Edward Sutch, also known as the 3rd Earl of Harrow or simply Screaming Lord Sutch, was an English  musician  and aspirant politician. He was the founder of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends is the debut album of Lord Sutch. It was recorded in September 1969 at Mystic Studios in Hollywood  and released on Atlantic Records on May 25, 1970. The album featured an all-star line-up with contributions from Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page (who also produced the album) and John Bonham, guitarist Jeff Beck, session keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, session guitarist Deniel Edwards and Jimi Hendrix Experience bass-player Noel Redding. Rick Brown and Carlo Little were previously with The Savages. Many of the musicians who sessioned for Sutch on this album had grave misgivings upon its release. They were under the assumption these were demo quality recordings. As a result the artists disowned the project and the album did poorly saleswise. It also seriously damaged Sutch's reputation with the musicians involved. Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends was named in a 1998 BBC poll as the worst album of all time, a status it also held in Colin Larkin's book The Top 1000 Albums of All Time.

Produced by George Martin for EMI's Parlophone  Records, it contains fourteen songs in its original British form, of which seven appeared in the film Help!. These songs took up the first side of the vinyl album and included the singles "Help!" and "Ticket to Ride". The second side contained seven other releases including the most covered  song ever written, "Yesterday". The American release was a true soundtrack album, mixing the first seven songs with orchestral material from the film. Of the other seven songs, two were released on the US version of the next Beatles album, Rubber Soul; two were back-to-back on the next U.S. single and then appeared on Yesterday and Today; and three had already been on Beatles VI. In 2003, the album was ranked number 332 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Beatles VI is The Beatles' sixth Capitol release, but eighth American album. It was the eighth album released into that market in less than one and a half years (Vee-Jay Records and United Artists Records also released one album each during that period). The LP was released in both mono and stereo versions.  Beatles VI includes two tracks recorded specifically for the North American market: "Bad Boy" and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy", both covers of Larry Williams songs, and both recorded on Williams' birthday (10 May 1965), marking perhaps the only time that the Beatles recorded material especially for the US market. "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" was eventually included on the British release of the Help! album, but "Bad Boy" was not released in the UK until the 1966 A Collection of Beatles Oldies.
